Profiles, names and avatars

Your profile is what your classmates see. It is made of three things: a display name you choose, a handle the site gives you, and an avatar you pick.

Display names​

  • 2 to 24 letters. Spaces, apostrophes, hyphens and periods are fine. No digits.
  • Use your first name and an initial, like Sam K. That is the shape the site expects.
  • No staff or role words (coach, admin, teacher, mod and the like), so nobody can look like staff.
  • Nothing rude, and nothing that is someone else's name.
  • A coach can reset your display name to your first name and initial at any time.

Your display name is checked when you set it. Your full name is never shown to classmates.

Handles​

The site makes a handle for you, like @BraveOtter42. It is unique, it is shown under your display name, and it is what friends, the leaderboard and the credit in your game use. You cannot change it, and when your account is deleted it is retired.

Avatars​

Pick an icon and a colour from the set on your account page. That is the default for everyone. Frames, backgrounds and titles you earn by finishing lessons can be worn too; they are all made by the site, so there is nothing to upload.

A photo is optional, and the centre can switch it off entirely. When it is on, a student can upload one only after a parent's written permission has been recorded by the centre. The photo is shrunk to a small square in your browser before it is sent, and a coach looks at it before any classmate can see it. It is stored in the site's own storage, never sent to a face-recognition or image-analysis service, replaced when you upload a new one, and removed when your account is deleted. A coach can take a photo down at any time.

Who sees your profile​

Only students in your own class, and staff. There is no public profile page and no search.

If something is wrong​

Tell a coach, or press Flag next to a classmate's name on the leaderboard. A coach sees the flag, can reset a display name or avatar, and can see who set it.
