Setup
Keep both tabs open all week. Open in a new tab — don’t use the buttons in this page to leave the course.
two tabs open and a webcam test that works
where you will train your AI and where you will build your game
a workspace that's ready for the rest of the course
Before students touch their laptops, show the whole class:
- Open Teachable Machine in a new tab. Show the New Project button.
- Open RAISE Playground in a new tab. Show that it looks like Scratch.
- Make it clear that we keep both tabs open every session and switch between them.
The big idea
The whole course uses two tools. One tool is where we teach the AI. The other tool is where we build the game. We never close either tab.
Today is small but important. By the end, both tabs are open. Your webcam works. You know where to save your work.
Today we only open the tools. Stage 1 starts the left side of the path: collecting photos in Teachable Machine.
- tab
- a page open in the same browser window
- webcam
- the little camera on top of the laptop screen
- model
- the AI brain we will train
- project
- the game we are building
Build it
Step 1 — Open Teachable Machine
Click the Teachable Machine button at the top of this page. It will open in a new tab.
Once Teachable Machine is open:
- Click the big purple Get Started button.
- Click Standard image model.
- You should see two boxes called Class 1 and Class 2 with camera buttons.
If the page asks for camera permission, click Allow. If your camera does not turn on, raise your hand for a coach.
Step 2 — Open RAISE Playground
Switch back to this page. Click the RAISE Playground button. It will open in a third tab.
You should see a Scratch-looking screen with a cat sprite on the right and colorful blocks on the left.
If your class uses RAISE accounts, sign in now. If not, you can stay signed out — your project will still work for today.
Step 3 — Decide how you will save your AI
Your AI starts inside Teachable Machine. After training, it gets a long link like:
https://teachablemachine.withgoogle.com/models/AbC123xyz/
That link is the model URL. Later, RAISE Playground will use it to find your trained AI. Pick one place to keep it:
- A Google Doc your coach shares with the room.
- A sticky note on your laptop.
- A small notebook by your seat.
Coaches will tell the room which way the class is using.
Step 4 — Keep both tabs open every session
Three things to remember for the rest of the course:
- The Teachable Machine tab stays open every day.
- The RAISE Playground tab stays open every day.
- This course page is your third tab — open it when you are not sure what to do next.
If you accidentally close a tab, that is okay. The buttons at the top of every stage will open it again.
Pacing Lab
This lab is required before Stage 1. It slows the room down now so setup problems do not steal time later.
Part A — Two-tab recovery drill (15 minutes)
- Close the Teachable Machine tab.
- Reopen it from the button at the top of this page.
- Close the RAISE Playground tab.
- Reopen it from the button at the top of this page.
- Turn the webcam off and back on in Teachable Machine.
Raise your hand when both tabs are open again and your camera works.
Part B — Workspace map (10 minutes)
With a partner or coach, point to each place on your screen:
- Where photos will go in Teachable Machine.
- Where the Train Model button lives.
- Where the model URL will be saved.
- Where blocks live in RAISE Playground.
- Where sprites appear in RAISE Playground.
- Where your project saves.
You are done when you can find every place without help.
Test your setup
- Teachable Machine is open in its own tab and the Image Project screen is visible.
- Your webcam works — you can see yourself in one of the Class 1 boxes.
- RAISE Playground is open in its own tab and you can see the cat sprite.
- You know where your AI link will live (Google Doc, sticky note, notebook).
- You can switch between this page, Teachable Machine, and RAISE in under five seconds.
